Happy Earth Day! At NEDT, this is one of the big holidays for us (even though we’re still that day) as we strive to clean up the environment not only for businesses but for communities and individuals. In celebration of Earth Day 2025, we’d like to talk about another celebration coming up in June, our 30th year of operation! Today, we want to talk a little about how we’ve been helping clean up New England for three decades.
30 Years of Environmental Stewardship
In 1995, NEDT was founded in a business sector dominated by big hazardous waste management companies. As a small, agile business, we were able to tailor our services to clients better than our competitors with our calling card of exceptional customer service. Over the years, we have:
- 1995: Founded as a laboratory chemical clean-out services company.
- 2007: Moved to our Sutton, MA headquarters, a large facility to hold our rapidly growing fleet of vehicles and equipment, as well as our expanding staff.
- 2012: Set up our first Household Hazardous Products Collection Center at our Sutton location.
- 2014: After the great success of our first location, a second Household Hazardous Products Collection Center was established in Westfield, MA.
In the early years of NEDT, we were primarily focused on lab pack and drum waste disposal but quickly expanded our services to bulk waste disposal, tank cleaning and removal, contaminated site remediation, and industrial cleaning. Later, our residential and disaster recovery and management services were established in the same way. NEDT has always looked to fulfill all customer needs through our services and our large network of subcontractors in construction and specialty services.
Dealing with Hazardous Waste by the Numbers
In our 30 years of service, especially as our business continued to expand, we’ve racked up some major numbers across our commercial and residential services, including:
- Over 28,000 Projects have been completed, including industrial, commercial, and residential property cleanup, hazardous waste management, and more.
- Over 3,000 Spills responded to, including roadway oil spills, industrial chemical spills, and residential furnace oil spills.
- Over 5 Million Pounds of Hazardous Waste disposed of at our residential Collection Centers, split between 3 million at our Sutton location and 2 million at our Westfield location.
- Over 1720 Days without a lost time accident (that’s almost 5 years!). These are serious injuries that occur on the job.
Earth Day 2024: How You Can Help with Hazardous Waste
While we’re helping businesses, we hope you also can help keep your home safe and help the environment this Earth Day. Here are a few simple ways you can help:
- Read the Labels: Make sure to read the labels of your household products for warnings, proper handling, storage, and disposal options. Read them at the store to make better-informed purchasing decisions.
- Do Proper Disposal: Do your research before pouring a product down the drain or throwing it in the garbage. Know your disposal options and what resources are in your state. Make sure to store products properly to avoid chemical fires.
- Don’t Store Hazardous Waste: If you have products that you can’t easily dispose of, don’t hold on to them! Bring them into one of our stores or contact your local Board of Health for your options. Take our quiz to get a better idea of what hazards you’ve got at home.
NEDT is proud to be here celebrating another Earth Day and soon to be our 30-year anniversary! If you need any of the commercial services we listed, contact our commercial site. If you’re a resident, feel free to stop in at our Hazardous Household Products Collection Centers – we’re open even on Earth Day!
