Happy Earth Day! At NEDT, this is one of the big holidays for us (even though we’re still open today) as we strive to clean up the environment not only for big businesses but for communities and individuals. In celebration of Earth Day 2023, we’d like to highlight the outreach we’ve been doing across Massachusetts to help Boards of Health and Departments of Public Works find better hazardous waste solutions for themselves and those they serve, as well as how you can help this Earth Day and beyond.
NEDT Pick-Up Services: Hazardous Waste Disposal at Your Door
While we love to see you at our Collection Centers, we can also come to you! We’ve been doing our pick-up service for years, but have continued to improve it as the times change. We started contactless pick-up during the pandemic and still offer that service now, as seen in the video below:
Want to learn more about our services that come to your door? Check out our blog, Household Hazardous Waste Disposal: Our NEDT Pick Up Service.
NEDT Outreach: Boards of Health
Last year, we started reaching out to local Boards of Health to give them more options when it comes to disposal events for their communities. Due to the pandemic, many BOHs were unable to offer the same hazardous waste disposal options as they did before. With NEDT’s help, many municipalities have been able to expand their disposal events beyond just one day, meaning you can bring in your hazardous waste on your own time. See our Board of Health Services page for more details.
NEDT Outreach: Department of Public Works
This year, we’ve been reaching out to the local Department of Public Works as well! We wanted to give DPW access to more options when it comes to handling, storing, and disposing of hazardous waste, as well as remediating sites, cleaning out labs, and 24/7 emergency chemical & oil spill response. If you work at a highway department or DPW in Massachusetts, you might have seen our monthly newsletter! If not, make sure to check out our Department of Public Works Services page.
Earth Day 2023: How You Can Help with Hazardous Waste
We hope this Earth Day you have something fun planned, whether that’s just enjoying the natural beauty of New England or helping out at a local community event to improve it. If you’re looking to extend this conscientiousness to your home, plan to do some of the following:
- Read the Labels: Make sure to read the labels of your household products for warnings, proper handling, storage, and disposal options. Read them at the store to make better-informed purchasing decisions.
- Do Proper Disposal: Do your research before pouring a product down the drain or throwing it in the garbage. Know your disposal options and what resources are in your state.
- Don’t Store Hazardous Waste: If you have products that you can’t easily dispose of, don’t hold on to them! Bring them into one of our stores or contact your local Board of Health for your options. Take our quiz to find what you’ve got at home.
NEDT is proud to be here celebrating another Earth Day! We hope you have a great day, and feel free to stop in – we’re open! Learn what we accept at our collection centers and plan your trip today!
